   Nordic walking  (an Urban walking activity) has caught on in Europe & is the newest recreational activity taking place in North America. Nordic Poles look similar to Trekking Poles (using by off-road hikers & climbers) with significantly different features. Nordic Walking Events:

1.) Nordic Walk Marathon Championship .  In response to 2005’s successful introduction of Nordic Walking as an official division & the increased popularity of Nordic Walking worldwide, The Portland Marathon has introduced the Nordic Walking World Championships (to be held as part of the Oct. 1, 2006 Portland Marathon).  If you are already experienced or just want to get out & watch the First World Championships come on out to Portland Oregon.  http://www.portlandmarathon.org/events_nordic.php

2) ‘Mayor’s Walk’  fitness event:  If you are already experienced or just want to get out & watch the First World Championships are being held in Portland Oregon.  Participate in the 10km (6.2 miles) ‘Mayor’s Walk’  fitness event starting near the south end of the University of Portland at N. Harvard and Willamette Blvd. Those in the mayor's walk get the opportunity to see our lead marathoners as they work their way along the last miles of the course. 10k walkers can start anytime between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m..
